The datafication of water infrastructure and its implications for (il)legible water consumers

Redevelopments of Lima’s water infrastructure aim to reduce inequalities in consumption, connections, and coverage by implementing data technologies claim make urban management more efficient. However, little research has been done on how the city’s hydrosocial geography is shaped increasing use for supervision control its infrastructure. This article analyzes datafication as interplay between different legibility-making practices understand multiple, interoperable real-time sources, shapes city well relationship main provider sewerage services (SEDAPAL) consumers across three scales: newly urbanized areas, sectors, households. We conclude that, an already unequal landscape, strategically (re)structures SEDAPAL, a state organization managing infrastructure, residents.
